In response to the rapidly growing number of refugees settling in Greater Western Sydney, STARTTS opened a new office in Blacktown to help us reach refugees in this area. Officially opened by the Mayor of Blacktown, Cr Alan Pendleton, and attended by many local service providers, the Launch was a reminder of the great need for expanded refugee services in this part of Sydney.
Paris Aristotle AM, CEO of the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture, recently released a statement about the settlement of refugees in Australia. It highlighted the substantial economic and social contribution people from refugee backgrounds have made to Australia.
In his statement, Paris Aristotle praises refugees resilience and their determination to succeed. “The great majority of people of refugee backgrounds settle quickly with relatively little assistance from government and community. They find jobs and homes; they set up businesses; they become familiar with how Australia works. Through offering them resettlement in Australia we are inviting them to become part of our nation – to be Australians.”
