Volunteer

Although we are always keen to hear from people wanting to help, due to the specialised nature of much of our work STARTTS is only able to offer a limited volunteer program. The opportunities listed below are areas that always need volunteer support.

If none of these opportunities is what you’re looking for, we may be able to match your skills and interests to a role within STARTTS or with a local refugee community group. To discuss this with us further contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Refugee Ball 2011 1

Join the Refugee Ball organising committee

STARTTS holds the Refugee Ball every year as a way to raise vital funds for STARTTS programs. It is also a great way to raise awareness about refugee issues and a great social event for people to meet and get to know one another. Find out more on our Refugee Ball page.

The Ball is organised by a committed group of volunteers working with STARTTS staff. The volunteers undertake any range of tasks in the lead up to the Ball, including promotion, sourcing prizes and sponsorship, organising entertainment, logistics and much more!

If you have any of the following skills/experience we would love to hear from you.

  • Event management
  • Marketing/Promotion/Media
  • Fundraising
  • Online skills (website/social media)

There may also be opportunities to lead a small team working in some of these areas.

Write for Refugee Transitions

STARTTS produces a twice-yearly magazine, Refugee Transitions, which examines issues related to refugees, mental health and trauma, and the international events that impact on these. See more of the magazine here.

We are always looking for volunteer writers to contribute articles to the magazine.

  • If you have an interest or experience in any of these areas then we would be happy to discuss potential article topics with you.
  • If you are interested in writing then we can allocate articles for you to write.

Other volunteering opportunities

At certain times, STARTTS also needs the expertise of people with specific skills, including graphic design and photography.

If you would like to enquire about any of the above opportunities please contact us.
