Silvana Cannavo (she/her) is a registered Psychologist and has been working as a Child and Adolescent Counsellor at STARTTS for the past 12 years. She came to STARTTS with 7 years’ experience working in a variety of clinical settings including NSW Community Health, Non-Government Organisations, School Counselling and Child Protection Services. Silvana has dedicated her career to the mental health and wellbeing of children, adolescents and adults with a particular interest in working with communities that are marginalised and culturally diverse. Silvana has gained experience and expertise in providing trauma informed and culturally safe psychotherapeutic interventions particularly with children and adolescents. Her approach, while client centred, draws on a diverse range of influences including Play therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Compassion Focused therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She has found a particular affinity for creative, growth oriented methodologies like sandplay and art. Silvana has trained as a Sandplay therapist and is currently working towards accreditation with the Australian-New Zealand Sandplay therapy Institute. Silvana has been providing Clinical Consultation to STARTTS Counsellors, and throughout her working years at STARTTS she has delivered training in regard to working with children, adolescents and adults from a refugee background to mainstream service providers.
