This important Clinical Master Class webinar will give you insight into how traumatic events and losses in the context of organised violence can have a significant impact on family relationships and the ability for families to support each other while rebuilding their lives in Australia.

From Elisabeth Shaw, a Psychologist and CEO of Relationships Australia (NSW), you will learn about strategic family therapy principles, case planning and making good referrals. She will discuss tools and techniques that can bring the broader social network of the client into the conversation, so as to see their suffering in context, and to assist them to understand themselves and their behaviour better.

Haseeba Shamal, a STARTTS Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor, will take you through a real-life example of how the family dynamics of a Palestinian family from Gaza were strengthened using key strategic family therapy principles such as therapeutic goals, family hierarchy, matching, reframing, and through the use of self to establish a strong therapeutic relationship.

You will be able to engage with Elisabeth Shaw and Haseeba Shamal via a live Q&A panel discussion facilitated by STARTTS’ CEO and Clinical Psychologist, Jorge Aroche. You will come away with many family therapy tools to assist families impacted by trauma.
